Sting taking a bump on Dynamite. Good idea or too risky?

As everyone saw Sting was power bombed on Dynamite by Brian Cage. My question is simple. Do you think having Sting take a bump on Dynamite with a PPV match upcoming was a good idea or was it too risky? I personally think it was a high risk move with a low reward. Sting is 61 with well documented neck issues having him take that bump on Dynamite was very risky considering he’s going to be participating in a tag match at the next PPV. I get why they did it. They wanted to show that he could still take a bump to help promote their tag match as a tag match not a handicap match. Still seemed too risky to me. What are y’all’s thoughts on this.

Re: Sting taking a bump on Dynamite. Good idea or too risky?

It would not surprise me if Sting and AEW have some kind of an agreement, where Sting will not hold AEW accountable if he does get injured, unless it is blatantly obvious that the wrestler or wrestlers involved in a spot with Sting have done something wrong. They probably did decide to do that spot last night to see if Sting can still bump on camera, or if it needs to be a cinematic match at the PPV. Yes it can be deemed as a risk, due to Sting’s neck issues, but as we all know anytime a wrestler steps into the ring they are taking a big risk. They might not have any well documented issues in the past as Sting does, but despite that it could always be the last time they step into a ring.

No shit.. I'm 1000% OK with Sting's participation being mostly deadly chops, some corner dives and a scorpion deathlock to end it. Partnering up with Darby is good, he can keep that kinda high risk action going.

I was a bit shocked that it happened, not going to lie, but if Sting was given the go ahead by doctors and feels safe enough to do that, then it is up to him what sort of moves he is willing to take. He must trust Cage enough to have done that, and from what I have heard, Brian is someone who takes these moves seriously and does his best to make sure everything he does is executed safely for both him and the person the move is being done too. I personally do not see Sting taking bumps like this on a weekly or regular basis. At the end of the day it is up to him and his doctors on which moves he can and cannot partake in.

I’m surprised a Powerbomb was done, but not surprised he took a bump. He probably will take a few more in his upcoming matches.

I kinda think it a good thing to see what he can take and can't ahead of the Street Fight at Revolution... I think most likely Sting agreed to take the bump as well... As well as he agreed to the street fight coming up...

Seriously? How do you figure a simple powerbomb was a bad idea, but him being in a street fight isn't? How do you figure he's going to get through an entire match if one move was "too risky"? I can kinda see you're point, but let's not forget Sting doesn't need AEW, AEW needs Sting. Sting has made his money, he could've taken an easy WWE Legends contract and lived comfortably the rest of his life. My point to that is Sting is (almost certainly) calling all his own shots in AEW, he decides what he will do and when, what he's willing to take, and what he's not willing to take. I'm also sure he has been evaluated a million times before he got the okay to sign and wrestle. The simple answer is No, the powerbomb wasn't risky, and it was needed. It was needed to help move the storyline and make us feel sorry for the faces. Darby getting dragged away in a body bag, behind a car, Sting getting dominated with one move, it's all designed to make us hate Team Taz more and feel sympathy towards the underdogs.

All fair and good points by you but I feel like I need to clarify something. It’s wasn’t so much the power bomb itself that I found risky but the timing of it in relation to the PPV. They are a little over 2 weeks away from Revolution and risking their biggest asset to prove a point about his health in relation to taking a bump or even to gain sympathy seemed like an unnecessary risk in my opinion but like you said it was more than likely Sting’s choice to take that bump and it appears that it was successful so good for them.

Re: Sting taking a bump on Dynamite. Good idea or too risky?

Obviously he was cleared by doctors to take a bump like that otherwise I'm sure Sting wouldn't have signed off on it.

You also gotta look at the situation with Edge. No one thought Edge would wrestle again as one more bump could paralyze him but fast forward a decade later and here he is. There's been a drastic advancement medically that gave Edge the chance at reviving his career to where he and doctors feel comfortable with him doing so. I really didn't hear about Stings procedures but for all we know he could have gotten that same treatment with that advancement in medicine. Bryan, Edge, Christian and now Sting who you would never have thought would take another bump are performing again.

So to answer the question sure I'd say good idea because if it couldn't be done then it wouldn't have been done.
